India’s largest airline, IndiGo, is facing a fourth straight day of severe operational issues, leading to widespread cancellations and delays across the country.

Large Number of Flights Cancelled

Over the past two days, the airline has cancelled more than 550 domestic and international flights, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. IndiGo says the disruptions are mainly due to crew shortages and adjustments required to meet the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules for pilots, which recently became stricter for night operations.

Airports Most Affected

Some of India’s busiest airports are experiencing the highest impact.

Bengaluru Airport has been hit the hardest, with more than 100 IndiGo flights cancelled on Friday alone. Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad have also reported long delays, crowded terminals, and increasing passenger complaints.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the DGCA have intervened, demanding a detailed plan from the airline to urgently stabilize operations, which IndiGo has stated will not be fully achieved until early February 2026. The DGCA has also been asked by pilot bodies to audit the airline's staffing before approving its seasonal flight schedule.
