Thiruvananthapuram Airport Launches "Fast Track Immigration" Service
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV) has officially introduced the Fast Track Immigration–Trusted Traveler Program (FTI-TTP), a major step forward in modernizing the airport experience. The design of this new service significantly expedites the immigration clearance process for eligible, pre-verified travelers, thereby reducing wait times and enhancing security.
Key Program Details
What is FTI-TTP? The FTI-TTP is an initiative by the Bureau of Immigration, under India's Ministry of Home Affairs. It aims to provide a seamless and secure immigration process through the use of automated e-gates, similar to the "Global Entry" program in the United States.
Who is Eligible? In its initial phase, the program is open to:
Indian citizens
Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) cardholders
How Does it Work? The system leverages advanced technology for a quick and efficient process:
- Pre-Verification: Travelers must first apply and register online through the official FTI-TTP portal. This involves submitting personal details and biometric data (fingerprints and a facial image).
- Automated e-Gates: Once enrolled, travelers can bypass traditional immigration counters. They simply scan their boarding pass and passport at the e-gate.
- Biometric Authentication: The e-gate uses facial recognition and other biometric data to verify the traveler's identity. Upon successful authentication, the gate opens automatically, granting clearance.
