Flight Reductions Announced Across Major U.S. Airports

In a major update affecting air travelers globally, the U.S. government shutdown is now impacting domestic air traffic. Beginning November 6, 2025, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has directed airlines to cut flight capacity by 10% across 40 of the country’s busiest airports.

Why the Cuts Are Happening

The decision comes after air traffic controllers and aviation staff have continued working without pay due to the prolonged government shutdown. With staffing stretched thin and pressure mounting, the FAA stated the move is aimed at reducing workload and maintaining safety in the skies.

What This Means for Passengers

Travelers flying in or out of the U.S. should prepare for possible delays and last-minute cancellations. Airlines such as Delta, United, and Southwest have already issued travel advisories, warning passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

International travelers with connecting flights in the U.S. may also be affected. It’s recommended to allow extra time between connections or consider flexible travel plans until the situation stabilizes.
