Passengers travelling across the UK today are being urged to review their flight status before leaving for the airport. Strong winds combined with ongoing staff shortages are disrupting operations at several of the country’s busiest aviation hubs during the holiday rush.
Early operational updates show that London Heathrow Airport, Manchester Airport, and Edinburgh Airport have collectively logged more than 250 delayed flights so far today. Although most services are still running, at least 15 flights have been cancelled, leading to extended waiting times and crowded terminals for many travellers.
What’s behind the disruption?
Airport officials explain that strong and unpredictable winds have forced air traffic controllers to increase the safe distance between aircraft. This precaution has reduced runway movement rates, slowing both departures and arrivals. At the same time, airlines are continuing to manage staffing limitations during the peak Christmas travel period, which is placing additional strain on already busy schedules.
