- London Heathrow airport will offer rapid Covid-19 tests to departing passengers as more territories require travellers to provide virus assessments as a condition of entry. The Oxford LAMP tests will cost 80 pounds ($104) and can be used for travel to destinations including Hong Kong and Italy that are requiring a negative Covid-19 result, according to a statement Tuesday from Collinson Group, which set up the facility at Heathrow. Results will be available in as little as 60 minutes.
- France is in the process of rolling out antigen tests in certain areas, which provide results on the spot within 15 minutes, rather than people having to wait up to 48 hours to have the results sent to them. The move has raised hopes that France may be able - after nine months - to reopen its borders to travellers from outside Europe, including Americans. At present France does not impose any kind of restriction, quarantine or compulsory testing on arrivals from within the EU, the UK or the Schengen zone - although travellers from France face restrictions in many European countries.
- Visitors to Egypt will no longer have to produce a negative coronavirus test to enter the country after fears that tourists would cancel their holidays because of the requirement. Instead, the country’s civil aviation authority told airlines operating out of vacation hotspots Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, Marsa Alam and Taba that visitors could get a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test upon arrival at these international airports for $30.
